Buckwheat Breeding and Seed Production in Poland

The history of buckwheat breeding in Poland is almost 80 years old. “Hruszowska” was the first variety, which 1956 entered to Polish National List Agricultural Plant Varieties (NLI). In programs Poland, 10 varieties have been registered so far. Additionally, 3 lines into official tests without a decision on entry NLI. During planned economy period (until 1989), despite limited number varieties, scale production certified seeds practically covered entire demand for sowing material. Currently, small cultivation and above all, lack EU list plant species are subject national listing seed material may be produced, assessed, controlled limit scope work make it difficult obtain profitable trade.
